🧹 MSP360 Cleanup
Deleting Retired “Staging” Workstations and Their Backup Data
Use this procedure once a workstation swap is fully verified and its image is no longer needed. The steps below erase both the computer record and all cloud/SMB backup data tied to the staging@dtctoday.comaccount. Deletions are permanent.
Prerequisites
✅ | Requirement | Why |
---|---|---|
☐ | You’re logged into the MSP360 Managed Backup Console with an administrator account that has Delete computers / users / data permissions and 2‑Factor Authentication enabled. | “Delete computer + data” requires 2FA and the proper role |
☐ | The workstation’s replacement has passed all swap‑out tests (see previous Self‑Service Guide). | Prevent accidental loss of a still‑needed image. |
☐ | Local SMB backups (if any) are no longer required. | You’ll delete those folders manually in Step 6. |
Step‑by‑Step
1️⃣ Log In
- Browse to https://console.msp360.com and sign in

2️⃣ Open Remote Management → Computers
- Filter by User = staging@dtctoday.com or by the device name.

3️⃣ Initiate Deletion
- If you see a deletion is currently progress, wait. It's from a previous batch deletion job. If you find more efficient ways to delete backup jobs, please send feedback to codecommanders@dtctoday.com. An idea for now is to do this a different way now that browsing the storage is possible in the web portal, we can delete backup job data manually, but not the entier computer account which presents its own problems.
- Click the ︙ (three‑dot) menu or the red X on the right.
- Choose Delete computer along with user & backup data.
- This option wipes the computer record, the underlying staging user, and all associated backup files in one action help.mspbackups.com
- Confirm the warning dialog:
- Enter your 2FA code.
- Type DELETE to acknowledge permanence.

Edge Case: If that user is linked to multiple computers, the “delete user” option will be greyed out. In that case:
- Select Delete computer but keep data first.
- Go to Organization → Users, select the staging user, click X, and pick Delete backup data kb.msp360.com
4️⃣ Wait for Success Toast
- You’ll see a green confirmation banner once the console purges records.

5️⃣ Verify Storage Is Freed (Optional)
6️⃣ Clean Up Local SMB Copies (If Applicable)
- On the file server, delete the workstation’s folder under
\\<NAS>\Backups\Staging\<ComputerName>

Done!
The retired workstation and all associated backups are now gone from the staging account and storage. Move the physical PC to the wipe/recycle queue per DTC policy, and close out the lifecycle ticket.
